Clarity of Vision

Who, What, Why, How? Why Everything Begins With Clarity of Vision

By Dr. Scott Zarcinas, Founder 818: Unlocking Your Life

Have you ever felt that getting through the week is sometimes like wearing a blindfold and tying your shoelaces together?

You don’t know which direction to take. You don’t know what you should do next. You keep bumping into things and making a mess.

One week seems bad enough, but imagine spending your entire life in this state.

Unfortunately, this is a common reality for most people. Life is a real struggle just to make ends meet, let alone get ahead.

As a doctor, author, and Life Practitioner, I have found that more often than not, the main issue confronting people is not lack of ability or know-how, but clarity of vision.

Those who are crystal clear on who they are, what they want to do, why they do it, and how they do it are more successful than those who don’t have that clarity, the ones who seem to wander through life blindfolded and hamstrung.

Research tells us that having a vision or purpose is beneficial not only to an individual’s personal life, but also to the organisation in which they work. As Jodi L. Berg states in The role of personal purpose and personal goals in symbiotic visions:

“When alignment is felt through the sense of the greater purpose, there is a deep, almost spiritual, commitment to making the world a better place and helping the organization contribute to that.”

In the past, purpose and meaning were seen mainly as tools to adapt to circumstances. The circumstances determined the purpose. The situation determined the meaning.

But Victor Frankl’s book, A Man’s Search for Meaning, in 1959 changed how meaning and purpose are viewed. Today, we tend to look at meaning and purpose as motivational drivers to not just cope with circumstances, but to drive toward something beneficial and attainable. In other words,https://unlockingyourlife.com/self-leadership/why-you-need-a-why-how-your-life-purpose-can-unlock-your-inner-power/

Your purpose determines your circumstances.

Part of that motivational drive is to have a clear vision of where you want to get to.

In talking with clients about developing a clear vision, I’m often surprised at the resistance to doing so. There are many instances where clients have challenged my advice with a gruff, ‘Why do I need it?’

I know it’s just their way of saying, ‘I don’t get it,’ or ‘I don’t see the point,’ and I’ve taken it as a sign that I haven’t fully explained the benefits of why they should develop a clear vision of who they are, what they want to do, why they do it, and how they go about it.

So here are ‘5 Reasons to Develop a CLEAR Vision’:

#1 Confidence:

Confidence is a game-changer. Successful people have it. Those with limited success tend not to have it.

Confidence develops and grows with the clear vision of who you are, what you want to do, why you do it, and how you do it.

Which is the basis of The BreakThrough Solution:

      1. Define who you are
      2. Determine what you want
      3. Design how to do it

Then you put it into action and do it.

The Psychology Dictionary Online defines self-confidence as an individual’s trust in their own abilities, capacities, and judgments, or belief that they can successfully face day-to-day challenges and demands

In essence, there are 3 main types of confidence that you develop with clear vision:

      1. Belief in your abilities—you develop the confidence that your skills and abilities are good enough to handle future scenarios and help you succeed.
      2. Belief in the outcome—you develop the confidence that circumstances will help you achieve what you want to achieve, and that events will tend in your favour.
      3. Belief in your efforts—you develop the confidence that your efforts will be rewarded with the outcome you intended.

Lack of confidence, by contrast, means you lack belief in your abilities to get things done, you don’t believe the outcome will be of any value to you, and you don’t think anything you do will make one iota of difference.

Research shows that children with high self-confidence perform better at school and have higher job satisfaction later in middle age. High self-confidence has also shown to improve the chances of survival after serious surgical procedures. Other studies show a strong relationship between self-confidence and achievement or positive mental health.

That’s why developing and growing confidence with clear vision is important to your future success and prosperity.

#2 Laser Focus

The power of a laser is achieved through immense focusing of light rays onto a single point of focus.

When you have clarity of vision, your thoughts and intention become so focused it can seem as though you have the power to cut through metal like a laser beam.

Having such focus works in 3 ways:

      1. Direction—your vision cuts through the mind fog and points you in the direction of your life purpose, the destination only you were born to reach.
      2. Motivation—your focus gives you the determination and drive to keep moving forward at all costs, no matter what obstacles appear on your path.
      3. Engagement—where motivation creates drive, engagement gives you the commitment and state of mind required to perform the actions you need to keep walking your path and stay on track.

Lack of focus, by contrast, means you will wander lost and directionless, lack energy and motivation, and become disengaged with what you do.

As Brian Tracy, author of Eat That Frog!, said:

“Single-minded concentration in the direction of your dreams intensifies your desires and increases your self-confidence.”

When you have clear vision, your focus sharpens into that ‘single-minded concentration’ that is a pre-requisite for success and prosperity.

#3 Empowerment

In life, there are many things that can cause you to feel disempowered—lack of finances, unemployment, relationship breakdown, severe illness or injury, lack of education.

Yet one of the things that can work in your favour and empower you, no matter your circumstances, is having a clear vision of who you are, what you want to do, why you do it, and how to do it.

When you have clarity, you tap into the unlimited source of energy and enthusiasm at the core of your being.

This energy and enthusiasm is always available, as long as you tap into it.

Get distracted and take your eye off your vision, however, and you begin to lose the connection with your natural energy and enthusiasm, which is your natural state of being. When you detach from your inner core, your energy saps and your enthusiasm fades.

The key is to keep the vision as clear and as strong in your mind as you can so that you can always tap into your natural source of power.

#4 Awareness

You don’t know what you don’t know, as the saying goes.

There are always things beyond your control, and there is always something more you can learn.

Yet having a clear vision goes some way to nullifying these concerns. Clarity of vision allows you to:

      1. Anticipate the unknown
      2. Regain control over your circumstances
      3. Improve your knowledge base

Which happens through increased awareness or perception of who you are, what you want, why you do it, and how to achieve it.

It's Up to You! by Dr. Scott ZarcinasSuccess is both being and doing, and in my book, It’s Up To You! Why Most People Fail to Live the Life they Want and How to Change It, I introduce the 4 Tenets of Success.

The 2nd Tenet of Success states that ‘success comes through you, not to you’, which is a form of ‘passive being’. Only your success can come through you, not anyone else.

Whereas ‘doing’ is rooted in physical action, ‘being’ is rooted in conscious awareness. The more you take action—the more you ‘do’—the higher your chances of success.

Likewise, the more aware you are—the more you are ‘being’ conscious—the higher your chances of success.

Therefore, increase your awareness by clarifying your vision and increase your odds of success and prosperity.

#5 Resilience

Have you ever wondered why some people can stick to a task or a mission while others fall to the wayside?

There are those who give up easily, and those who keep moving forward despite the odds against them.

No matter what happens, no matter what obstacles they encounter along the way, they keep moving forward.

Nothing else matters. Only moving toward the intended outcome is important.

Part of that resilience comes from having a clear vision of what’s required to be done to achieve what they want to achieve.

It’s like having tunnel vision, with only the goal ahead in sight.

Without this clarity of vision, it’s easy to get distracted and sidetracked. When this happens, procrastination sets in and resilience falls away.

This is why you need to stay true to your vision and remain clear on who you are, what you want, why you do it, and how to achieve it.
